CHILD (Ages 3-10)
Parenting is one of the most important and yet, most challenging roles we face. Our children may be struggling with temper tantrums, acting out at school, or aggressive behavior at home. Parenting can leave us feeling helpless, struggling to know the best approach to help our children.
LifeSong's qualified, caring professionals can help you and your children navigate the difficulties you may be facing.
Child therapy is a partnership between the therapist and the child's caregivers. As our clinicians come alongside children and their families, they can help support emotional regulation and resolve specific issues both for the child and the entire family.
Because of LifeSong's focus on Attachment Theory, the child's primary supports (parents and caregivers) are vital players in the therapy process. While child therapy is primarily about helping little ones find new skills to navigate the world, caregivers play an essential role as they learn to understand the world from their child?s perspective. Such understanding facilitates great change for a child, leading
to more satisfying relationships with caregivers, less interpersonal conflict, and effective strategies as they navigate life's ups and downs.
The models and techniques we use most frequently include:
- Parental education
- Play therapy
- Expressive arts
- Sand tray
- Attention and ADD issues
- Attachment and Bonding
- Trust Based Relational Interventions (TBRI)
ADOLESCENT (Ages 10-17)
Like children, teenagers need security in their relationship with caregivers to explore and understand their changing inner world. The focus, then, of adolescent therapy is to help teens develop a felt sense of safety within their family. Since adolescents differ, however, in that they are more actively differentiating from the family unit, the emphasis is more on the individual with family participation as a
support. Clinicians help adolescents navigate these issues with the ultimate goal of equipping parents with the tools to come alongside their teen as they grow.
Thus, adolescent therapy seeks to provide a safe haven for teens as they explore various issues, including:
- Self Esteem
- Body Insecurities and Eating Disorders
LifeSong's clinicians want to help you and your adolescent navigate the tension between their developmentally appropriate drive for separateness and the inherent human longing for togetherness. With a focus on attachment theory, adolescent therapy can help the family build a safe haven for the teenager where they can find support and establish caregivers as a secure base to launch into adulthood.
